Future SEIWA Candidates

Postby FlyingRagnar » Tue Mar 27, 2012 8:31 pm

There are a couple threads with some of this information, but I thought it best to combine that here. Please sticky this thread if possible.

The following are game series which are affiliated with Square Enix. These series are possible future candidates for joining SEIWA. Note that I have removed some of the names from the original list on KH wiki since some of those series are not large enough to support an independent wiki.

Final Fantasy Wiki
http://finalfantasy.wikia.com
Discussed with current leadership and they declined involvement. Plans to stay on Wikia. (link) (As of 3/2012)

Final Fantasy XI Wiki
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org
http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page
community seems split between the 2, seems like a mess, lots of content

Final Fantasy XIV Wiki
http://ffxiv.wikia.com

Just Cause Wiki
http://justcause.wikia.com
2 games, 661 articles, contacted by FlyingRagnar (3/2012)

Deus Ex Wiki
http://deusex.wikia.com
957 articles, contacted by FlyingRagnar Also contacted here(3/2012)

Front Mission
http://frontmission.wikia.com/wiki/Front_Mission_Wiki
87 articles, very little activity

Mana
http://mana.wikia.com/wiki/Wiki_of_Mana
196 articles, very organized, but not lots of activity
Contacted by FlyingRagnar, one of the admins is a frequent editor on the Dragon Quest Wiki. Also contacted here, admin says he wants to mature the wiki more before going independent.

Hitman
http://hitman.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
444 articles, contacted here and here by FlyingRagnar (3/2012)

http://starocean.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Ocean_Wiki

Black Butler
http://kuroshitsuji.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
http://whentheycry.wikia.com/wiki/Higur ... ro_Ni_Wiki
251 articles

The World Ends with You
http://twewy.wikia.com
1104 articles, contacted about going independent, expressed interest in doing so, but have a lack of activity in past few months (link) (As of 3/2012)

Tomb Raider
http://wikiraider.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
Independent, Contacted by Starphoria on their forums with no response. FlyingRagnar contacted them again to try to help with their spam problem. They are not using any extensions on the wiki. (As of 3/2012)

Lufia
The wiki on wikia is crap, but this series is big enough for a wiki. Not many loyal fans of this series apparently?

Square Enix Manga
Might consider having a manga/anime wiki for all the small stuff. Many of the manga series Square Enix runs are small and probably don't have enough of a following to have their own wiki. Many on wikia are tiny and mostly abandoned. Maybe integrate this into SE wiki?

Thief
http://thief.wikia.com/wiki/Thief:_The_Dark_Wiki
4,674 articles

Legacy of Kain
http://legacyofkain.wikia.com/wiki/Legacy_of_Kain_Wiki
906 articles

Okay, going down the list for current statuses that I know of;

FFWiki - declined, I seriously doubt we'll get anywhere with the site's current administration.
FFXI Wiki - already forked (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page there's also a FFXIV wiki on that site)
TWEWY Wiki - accepted an offer (http://twewy.wikia.com/wiki/User_talk:Chitalian8), however, it's been a few months since we asked so we may need to make sure they still want in.

That's all I know.

I've updated the first post. I removed a lot of the series which are mostly tiny and have little to no activity on existing wikis on Wikia.

thank you for doing this, and for putting posts in the other threads.

I didn't want anyone reviving the old ones, when we now have this one.

Replyies to specific wikis:

Someone should infrom them the KH Wiki has surpassed KH wikia in the google ranking.

That's kind of sad. Some one should unite them, but who?

Seriously, I am asking here. I don't play the game, so it can't be me.

I would like to see this happening. The founder/sole-staff member was a strong supporter of SEIWA, but I haven't seen him around here.

That's disappointing. Hopefully he can find some free time for it.

I think prod has expressed interest in hosting this

Is anyone listening to the forums over there?

I am guessing not. Do we know of any fans that could help them out?

This sounds like a good idea to me.

Not globally, unfortunately. Google searching Kingdom Hearts Wiki here gives Wikia first through third and SEIWA fourth. Although with what they're currently doing, it won't matter which one ranks first soon enough anyway.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the FFXIV Wikia is dead. I just looked at their RC, 1 edit in the last 30 days, and the editor who did that isn't staff. If anyone ever wanted to approach the FFXI wiki on Gamer Escape, however, Eorzeapedia's also on that site.

Is anyone listening to the forums over there?

The forum appears to be active, somewhat, we just haven't gotten any responses.

This sounds like a good idea to me.

Agreed.

What are they doing, then?

That could explain our the lack of responses.

Basically, what they were originally planning to do. The independent site will have the encyclopaedic content, the Wikia site will behave more like a fansite, and the two will link between each other where possible. From an outside view, they may as well be two halves of the one site, and it won't matter who ranks first, as there'll be easy access to one from the other.

I'm sure someone who actually regularly edits one of the wikis involved can explain better than I just did.
